Have you recently moved to a zip in Honolulu? It could be that you are on the lookout for a good job. After all, a lot of people move here for the great weather and the fantastic views, and only think about employment afterwards. Fortunately, the economy of Honolulu is diverse enough that almost anyone can find employment they consider ideal.
Tourism
The tourist industry is, of course, the largest contributor to the Honolulu economy. $10 billion a year overall is great news for anyone with experience in, or looking to start a business which appeals to, the tourists who flock to the island each year.
And there are all sorts of different businesses to consider. A person with a Muskoka catering company knows just how lucrative the vacationing public can be. Businesses and individuals are always looking for the next best thing in Hawaiian food, so look forward to any kind of catering business doing well.
Agriculture
While tourism makes up the lion's share of Honolulu's revenues, it's not the only game in town. In fact, long before the island became the destination of choice for every Burlington Ontario lawyer and her family, it was home to a diverse range of agricultural operations. Those operations continue today, with sugar cane, macadamia nuts, and other crops grown in the tropical soil as well as various aquaculture crops in the ocean.
Trade
Hawaii's a great halfway point between the Pacific Rim countries, and therefore serves as a natural choice for harbor facilities. It's a registered foreign trade zone, with many goods made in the East making their first state side landing here.
University of Honolulu
Our university is well known in the circles of upper education. It's an important center for ongoing SR & ED projects, receiving millions each year in research grants. As with all universities, research facilities aren't the only area of employment, as hundreds of jobs are filled by people with varying levels of qualification.
Armed Forces
Several branches of the American armed forces still have bases in Hawaii. Use any company a specializing in search engine optimization, Toronto based or not, and they will tell you that Pearl Harbor is still one of the most used phrases on the Internet when people look up Hawaii. The shipyard is still there, and employs thousands of people, bringing a lot of outside revenue into the Hawaiian economy. That means there are opportunities for entrepreneurs as well, those who are looking to start up online printing services and so on.
